What is a Spiced Apple Mocktail?

Imagine a spiced apple juice, but much more delicious and fizzy! This spiced apple mocktail is exactly that. The drink is made by combining the subtle sweetness of apple juice with a spice-heavy simple syrup mainly with cinnamon and cloves. The latter gives the spiced apple drink its unique kick. While the process might seem tricky at first, trust us, the infused syrup only takes a couple of minutes. Moreover, it also makes for a wonderful addition to your spiced milk and other dessert preparations. So, it's a win-win situation!

Behind the Ingredients: Flavour Profiles and More

Curious to learn the intricacies of the apple cinnamon mocktail? Here is the detailed take on the main ingredients of the concoction and how they lend their flavours to bring this drink together:

Apple Juice: By now, it is quite straightforward that apple juice is integral to this recipe. It is so due to the distinct aroma and crisp tart-sweet flavour of the fruit that is equally balanced and nuanced. This allows the flavours of the spices to blend in much more easily. Making apple juice at home without any residue takes effort; hence, any store-bought apple beverage may work as well.

Cinnamon: Apples and cinnamon are a combination as old as time. They are revered as a mix and used in several recipes such as pies, crumbles, toddy and so on. Therefore, using the spice here comes naturally. It contributes a warm, woody-sweetness to the drink that helps boost its overall sensory experience. If you are short on cinnamon sticks, you may always substitute with a dash or two of cinnamon powder.

Cloves: Now, we’ve added sweet components to this apple cinnamon mocktail. All that is missing is a spicy kick to complete it. This comes from the trusted cloves. If you haven’t had the time to work with cloves, then we’ll tell you that you sure do need to! It is a wonder spice that has a complex flavour profile comprising sweet, spicy, warm and bitter. Similar to cinnamon, cloves are aromatic and a must-have in your mulled beverages.

● Before we assemble this non-alcoholic apple drink, we need to make the spice-infused simple syrup. You may do so by combining water and sugar in a small saucepan. Add the cinnamon sticks and whole cloves into the pan as well.

● Keep stirring this mixture on medium heat until the sugar dissolves. Once you do not notice any sugar crystals remaining and the infused syrup has slightly caramelised as well, take it off the heat.

● Now, let this mixture cool for at least 10 minutes before you run it through a sieve to separate the spices from the syrup.

● Later, take a tall pitcher and mix the infused syrup with the apple juice.

● Once you are ready to serve, simply transfer this apple cinnamon mix to a transparent glass. Top with some sparkling water and ice cubes.

Serve fresh with a slice of apple and a cinnamon stick.

There is a certain charm to apple mocktails. They are delicious yet refreshing without being too overbearing. With the year coming to a close, give this apple cinnamon mocktail a try. You may never know; your family might fall in love with the apple-cinnamon combination all over again!
